Inasmuch as the airline industry is "central to the globalization taking place in many other industries" (Alonzo et al, 2006) due to its role in bringing about such critical global elements as economic growth, trade and international investment, it stands to reason how its impact upon tourism is in direction relation to the ever-growing presence of globalization. The very essence of globalization is that of change, to relearn stable and familiar ways in order to make room for ever-growing progress. Because there are two sides to every issue, the dichotomy of air travel and tourism growth compared with environmental degradation has rendered globalization a much-contested concept.
